Hello everyone,
I'm hoping to use this blog to share our life's adventures with family and friends. As many of you know, we're temporarily residing in Anchorage, Alaska. We've been here a month now.
We've had a handful of moose sitings which has been very exciting for our entire family. Two nights ago a moose actually slept a couple hundred feet from our back window. We've been told that a mother moose birthed her baby in the same area a couple years ago. What an amazing thing to see. Who knows, maybe we'll be so lucky this spring.
Since living here we've learned that you should never get between a mother moose and her baby even if they are thousands of feet away from each other. The mother moose (called a cow believe it or not) will come right after you. All of us have met people that have been chased by a moose. One lady said that you should get behind a tree if at all possible. You are more at risk when walking a dog since the dog can upset the moose. As surprising as this sounds, there are more deaths caused by moose than bears in Alaska. Most deaths occur when a mother moose is trying to protect her young.
Many of you probably think we're freezing but our weather is not bad here. We've actually had an unusually warm winter. For a week and a half we were in the high 30s and early 40s. This week we are supposed to be in the mid 30s all week.
We woke up late today. Gabriel decided to get up between 2am and 6am this morning. His internal clock is still adjusting to the three hour time difference. The kids are both in a good mood this morning. Mia is sewing Gabriel's monkey that has a big hole in it. We're thinking of going to a museum today. I have to go now and get ready. I'll try to post again soon.
